Maintaining my webpages has now become a part-time career for me, and the cost of site maintenance has steadily risen over time. So, if you benefit from this website and would like to see it continue, please purchase "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers," and/or make occasional financial donations where possible to help defer the costs of keeping my site on the internet.

Halloween Party:

From Stormie:
My very favorite Halloween theme ideas have been reserved for my "HALLOWEEN" booklet, many of which are great for your classroom party.  (I even include a parental letter you can use.)  (See the "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers" section of my website.)  I'm posting more ideas below though as often as I can   :-)

I was taught that even on party days, it's a good idea to stick with your daily routine as much as possible.  I definitely prefer this as it provides calm to an otherwise sometimes chaotic day.

I like putting activities in the learning centers on Halloween Party Day that I don't put out on any other day:
Math Center Activity: Candy Sorting: If you or your school provides the children with take-home trick-or-treat wrapped candy, you have instant access to a sorting activity.

Cooking Project: Easy Party Cake:  (Make this cake in advance of the party): With the children "helping," make a simple basic chocolate cake from a mix and top it with dark chocolate frosting.  Decorate the top with gummy worms, jellybean bugs, and googly eyes (large marshmallows placed side by side that have butterscotch drops pushed into their centers).
Alternative: Place the batter in a round pan.  Frost it with orange frosting for a pumpkin.  Decorate the top with candy corn.  Or, instead of a large cake, bake enough pumpkin cupcakes for each child to have one.

Besides tossing beanbags into thematic Halloween decorated boxes, you can also have children get little rewards for tossing spiders into webs.

From Ms. Rita:
Mr. Pumpkin Head: My kids just love this activity at our Halloween parties.  I have a container of "Mr.Potato" parts that I let the children use on real pumpkins instead of potatoes.  They have a ball laughing at each other's pumpkin faces they make.
Note from Stormie: What a fabulous idea and lesson learned for all of us who buy miscellaneous old game pieces from thrift stores, all the while asking ourselves, "What in the world will I do with these?"

From Janet M., Wyandotte, Michigan:

Fit the Shapes: For our Halloween party, I cut several shapes (circle, square, triangle) from a pumpkin that we cleaned out the day before.  Then I push a golf tee into each shape so that the children can pull the shapes out of the pumpkin and put them back in again.  With another pumpkin, we set out a bowl of golf tees and several plastic hammers and allow the children to pound the tees into the pumpkin.  The children really like this!
