From Stormie:
*One option for your water table
for the month of November is to place spoons, scoops, plastic bowls and bottles,
sifters, funnels, and dry cornmeal into the table. After children have experienced
it in its dry form, allow them to add water to it. Is it easier to scoop,
sift, etc when it's dry or wet? How does it feel when dry? ........when
wet? Does it have a smell?
*Coffee Sand: I also like this as an option for my November table: Spread 4 cups of dry used coffee grounds out onto newspaper to dry. Then, mix the dry grounds with 2 cups of cornmeal, 1 cup of flour, and 1/2 cup of salt.
*Another use for dry cornmeal is to provide children with a flat pan of it for drawing in with craft sticks or their fingers.
Agustina
Echeverria, from the Child Development Lab at Daytona Beach Community College
in Florida sent this great idea:
"I put hay in my November water/sand table with some paper bags, funnels,
empty plastic bottles, and measuring cups. There was lots of problem solving
going on at the table: getting hay out of the bottles, making it go through the
funnels, and so on. There was also lots of texture and smell with this activity.
I bought the hay at a Craft store (Michael's) for about $5." Reminder:
Beware of allergies.
