MINI-MUSIC APPRECIATION: Country

From Stormie:

You can go
to almost any store that carries music CD's and find a large selection of country music.  By the way, did you know there are several categories?  Here's just a few:
Contemporary        Bluegrass        Cowboy        Honky-Tonk        Western

> What's Thanksgiving in the classroom without singing and dancing to the Bluegrass tune of "Turkey In the Straw?"
>
The cowboy song "Home on the Range" is perfect for singing during the theme of "Home/Family."

> The sounds of a guitar (for the letter Gg) are often heard in country music, as well as the fiddle (for the letter Ff).
> How about introducing the flute musical instrument for the letter Ff?
> Play flute music during free choice playtime.  (Native American Flute music is especially beautiful.)
> How about playing sounds of the harmonica or harp for the letter Hh?

If your shape this month it the triangle, you could introduce the "triangle" musical instrument.

How about introducing the children to the sound of Hip-Hop for the letter Hh?
Here's a suggested preschooler-friendly CD:
Hippity Hop; Music for Little People

Suggested CD: The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney; Various Artists
