Feather Painting On Triangles
From Stormie:
Provide various shapes of triangles cut from various kinds of paper for children to choose from when coming to the easel.  Hang a bag of feathers on the easel for children to choose the size and texture they want to experiment with as they paint.  Encourage them to use light gentle strokes so they can see the feather prints.  As you will see, painting this way can be a challenge for some children which is exactly the point.  (I don't usually like the often-used newsprint paper at the easel because it's so thin that children can sometimes paint holes into it, but it's perfect for this because of the gentle feathery strokes.)  You may need to set a limit as to how many feathers any one child can use.  Reminder: I use "feathers" in association with the "letter F" and/or I might refer to them as pretend "turkey feathers" (not Indian feathers).
Instead of single feathers, do this:
MJ, in Texas says:
"When you buy those feather dusters for decorating your F's, grab a few extra for "feather duster" painting.  This is a good easel activity.  Paper plates work best for holding the paint."

From Stormie:
Turkey Shapes: Instead of triangles, you could provide large turkey shapes at the easel.  Once they are dry, children can be given the option of taking them to the Art Center for embellishment.  One of my favorite things to do (and more importantly, the children's favorite) is to provide construction paper scraps, scissors, and glue on the art center table so children can cut their own "feathers" and glue them onto their turkeys, a collage if you will.  I have seen some real masterpieces with this little project as the feathery paint strokes make a great background for the darker solid colored construction paper turkey feathers.

Creative Abstract Paintings
From Stormie:

Going from Abstract To Concrete: Provide children with large sheets of manilla paper for painting on.  When the paintings are dry, cut them into cornucopia shapes, turkey shapes, triangle shapes, etc (child's choice) and then allow the children to do what they wish with them in the Art Center.
