Maintaining my webpages has now become a part-time career for me, and the cost of site maintenance has steadily risen over time. So, if you benefit from this website and would like to see it continue, please purchase "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers," and/or make occasional financial donations where possible to help defer the costs of keeping my site on the internet.

Warm Sudsy-Bubbly Water

From Stormie:
You can create soapy water from flakes, powder, liquid, or bar soaps.

Water Table Toys: Some of the best toys for playing in water are the ones I've collected from around the house or have purchased at thrift shops: Various types of plastic squeeze or pump bottles (especially ones that are shaped like particular objects--for example, honey bottles are sometimes bear shaped), catsup/mustard dispenser bottles, measuring spoons/cups, scoops, shaker type spice bottles (lots of little holes in the lids), hand-held egg beaters (whips up nice bubbles), bars of soap (Ivory and non-floating), strainers (coffee strainers work great too), colanders, eye droppers, basters, whisks, ladles, pitchers, sieves, pastry brushes, large and small spoons, water related toys (boats and sea creatures), funnels,......

(I'll add more as I remember them)

Funnels: You can make your own funnels by cutting across the middle of various sizes of bleach bottles or other bottles that have narrow necks.  The top part is the funnel and the bottom part is the bowl.  Cover raw edges with waterproof protective tape.

Straws: Give children straws for blowing in the water to create even more bubbles.  Remind them not to share their straw, explaining why.  If you punch holes near the top of the straws, it will prevent younger children from sucking instead of blowing.

*From Lisa in Baltimore, Maryland:
Those little scoops from formula cans are great for water table play.

*Here's a truly marvelous activity from Miriam Dunne, in Dublin, Ireland that also fits right in with the theme of wind/air:
Bubble Mountains (if children are developmentally ready): We have groups of children sitting at tables before containers of water and liquid soap.  (We first cover the table with newspapers to soak up spills.)  The children blow and blow and make bubbles until, eventually, all the bubbles join together forming "bubble mountains."
