I have reserved my very favorite preschool
math activities for my "PRE-MATH" booklet (see the "Stormie's
Stuff for Teachers" section of my website).

From
Stormie: Art Center Activity: "Mr. Eight":
To focus on recognizing the number 8: In advance, cut out red, blue, and green
number 8's and put them on the art center table. Children pick the one they
want, glue it on yellow paper, then give it features: The top circular part of
the number could be a face, and arms and legs can be drawn or created from materials
found in the art center scrap box. As usual,
allow the children to create their own. You might suggest that since it
is number 8, maybe he should have eight of something: eyes, noses, arms, etc.
Stormie's
Games: By the way, I offer a "Counting Cards"
game in the "Teaching Aids" section of "Stormie's
Stuff for Teachers.
Sandra Sanchez, a pre-k teacher in Laredo, Texas suggests that:
When having children create their own kites for the theme of "March Winds"
or "diamond," have them count out and attach 8 bows to it (or your number for
the month). Favorite Books:
From
Stormie:
Handle With
Care, by Frank and Carol
Hill: I love reading
this book when I'm doing number 8 with my class. Olivia, the Octopus, has
8 legs that are always getting in the way till one day, she uses them to help
her friends.
