I thank Angie for helping
me out by kicking off this section of my website:
Shredders:
Here's an idea I always write in my classroom newsletter. I tell the parents
to use their children as their "personal shredders." Give them a pair of
scissors and mail that you are finished with and let them cut it up. Size
of pieces doesn't matter, just let them cut. This suggestion really helped
one left-handed student that I have. I also let them know that child-sized
scissors are available in most dollar stores.
From
Stormie:
*As it relates to the
theme of "Wind/Air," pre-drawn kites are great straight-line shapes for children
to practice cutting out.
*As it relates to the
theme of "Transportation," round traffic lights are great for "circles" cutting
practice.
*As it relates to the theme of "Farm,"
barns are good straight and curved lined cutting practice.
*It
has been my experience that cutting shamrock shapes are a bit tricky for preschoolers
with all the curves, but yet, they also provide a challenge for those who are
ready.
Other Fine Motor Options for March:
*If one of your letters this month is Rr, put
out your set of Ringa-Majigs that week if you have them available
*If one of your letters this month is Tt, put
out your set of Tower-ifics that week if you have them available
*If one of your letters this month is Ss, have
children practice "snapping" their fingers.
From
a stay-at-home mom:
If you're
doing the letter Tt this month, you could have the children pick up small
toys using tongs and place them into their proper containers when they're
done playing with them. (It's fine motor practice at the same time children
are being responsible for cleaning up after themselves.)
From
Kimerly Gaines:
In celebration
of St. Patricks Day, I put green rice in our water table for practicing the fine
motor skills of pouring and scooping.
