Maintaining my webpages has now become a part-time career for me, and the cost of site maintenance has steadily risen over time. So, if you benefit from this website and would like to see it continue, please purchase "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers," and/or make occasional financial donations where possible to help defer the costs of keeping my site on the internet.
ON-GOING
EASEL ART PROJECT:
Roller Brush Painting on Diamonds Creative
Abstract Paintings
Here's
a TRULY FABULOUS idea for kicking off this section of my website, and it comes
from Heidi Rich, in Sycamore, Illinois:
Art Palette: The little Taco Bell sauce cups (that come with the salad) are
perfect for making an artist's palette. Of course, you need quite a few.
Cut a piece of cardboard into a palette shape, cut a hole for the thumb, glue
a couple of the cups on and viola! You have an artist!!!
Roller
Brush Painting on Diamonds
From Stormie:
Small
roller brushes can be found at hardware stores, educational supply stores, as
well as through the catalogs of companies like Discount School Supply and Lakeshore
Learning. Rather than the easel, I prefer setting up this activity at a
table. Provide large diamond-shaped paper throughout the month -- taped
down to the table.
Variations:
*For smaller arm strokes,
provide construction paper (in colors of the month) for children to choose from
for painting on
*Provide the options of large diamond-shaped paper and papers
cut into an octagon-shape (if you're introducing that shape this month)
Following
Directions Painting: Uppercase Letter T Mural: If one of your letters this
month is "T," it's a fun letter to make with roller brushes on a large
sheet of butcher paper: Children make vertical strokes then cross them at the
top with horizontal strokes. Offer your monthly colors of paints.
Creative Abstract Paintings
From Stormie:
Provide a large sheet of manilla paper at the easel (with regular easel brushes)
for each child to paint. When the paintings are dry, offer to cut the paper
into a monthly theme related shape (kite, octagon, barn, space shuttle, etc),
or allow the child to take it home as it is. Or, allow them to take their
paintings to the Art Center to work on as they please.
