Chalk
& Water Painting On Flower Shapes
From Stormie: You
know how at the end of the school year you have lots of small pieces of chalk
left over? Well, this is a great way to use those up. I simply provide
a small cup of water at the easel with several colors of chalk pieces. Children
dip the chalk into the water before coloring manilla paper flower-head cut-outs
(or give them a plain piece of manilla paper not cut into any shape). The
pictures will have a deep rich color. If you're concerned about the chalk
smearing, you can give the pictures a light coating of hairspray once they've
dried.
Creative
Abstract Paintings
For the last
month of school, I think it's neat to put out a small table near the easel from
which children can choose a painting tool (put out items they have painted with
throughout the year at some point -- like feathers, roller brushes, etc). Provide
huge pieces of different types of paper for them to paint on, or, by way of review,
cut the papers into all the various shapes you focused on throughout the school
year.
Share your May easel peojects too!
