Bulletin Board: In
celebration of the qualities of good character, create a "Character Tree":
Draw a large bare tree and then have children glue green leaves onto it that have
character trait (and sub-trait) words printed on them. Place the tree in
the center of a bulletin board and surround it with magazine pictures of people
(especially children) demonstrating actions that show good character.
Even
Better Variation: Draw around each child's hand on green construction paper
and use those as the tree leaves.
Discuss/review all good
character traits that have been learned throughout the school year.
Character
Kings and Queens: Choose a different character trait focus for each day and
tell children you are going to watch and/or listen for it and then make those
children the King and Queen at the end of the day. (For example, "Nancy
is our Kindness Queen today and Jeffrey is our Kindness King." Then
tell the class what you saw/heard them do or say that showed kindness.) Make
sure you have enough days so that each child can get crowned on one day or another
-- don't leave anyone out. (A simply made paper crown is perfect for
them to wear home proudly.) -----------------
