Art Learning Center Activity:
January Bulletin Board Border:
For this month, have the children
cut the bulletin board border strips themselves by cutting on a straight line
that you've drawn about 2 1/2" from the edge of blue construction paper.
Then have them do white, polka-dot, Q-tip painting on their strips for a snow
storm. What a neat border!
Other "cutting on a line"
options for the month:
*If
your shape of the month is a rectangle, provide paper ones with lines drawn on
them for children to cut into strips. Increase the difficulty by providing
rulers and allowing children to practice the eye-hand coordination skill of drawing
their own lines on white paper rectangles.
By the way, I
was taught that straight lines are easier for children to cut than curved ones.
Other Fine Motor options for January:
*Put out the game of
Links for the letter Ll if you have it available.
*If one
of your themes this month is "Community Helpers," put out your little wooden toy
tool/work bench for free choice play
Here's
a great idea for inside your bulletin board border from Kimberly S:
Bulletin Board Decor: I tore off a large piece of paper for the children
to work on together, and set out glitter glue, paint brushes, scissors, catalogues,
paint, markers, recycled computer paper, and let the children make their own "blizzard"
scene. They LOVED it (ages 2-5)! They spent the whole Learning Center
time (30 minutes) doing it. -----------------------------
