My very favorite large muscle activities have
been reserved for my "GROSS MOTOR"
booklet (see the "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers" section
of my website).

Lecture
Notes and Random Activities:
*Kicking
a ball above the middle may result in a fall. It should be kicked between
the bottom and middle.
*Stress
keeping eyes on the ball when kicking it rather than on the target where it is
to be kicked.
Try this for fun:
*Have
children free-kick to music.
*Kick
a ball with the outside of your foot.
*Have
children kick into the air with their eyes closed.
*Which
can you kick the farthest, a yarn ball or a rubber ball? Can you hold a
ball with both hands and kick it out of your hands?
*Kick
a ball 7 times (or whatever your number focus is for the day, week, or month).

Here's
an absolutely terrific idea from Darlene Kline who does this with her older
toddlers:
Soda Ring Basket: Hello, I've
gotten some good ideas from your website so I thought I'd return the favor
:
I tie four 6-pack soda rings together creating a large rectangle. Then
I tie string to the 4 corners as handles. I place a ball into the basket
formed by the soda rings. My assistant and I then hold the basket by the
string-handles so that it is just off the floor. The children have to kick
the ball out of the basket by kicking from under it. You can raise the ball
as the children get better at kicking, or are older. This can be taken outside
as well.
