*I am so pleased to begin this section of my website with a book suggestion from Linda Goad, Covenant Nursery School, Evanston, Illinois.  I like this book because it teaches how we need to protect homes of the wild animals in our backyards too, not just the domain of endangered animals: Where Once There Was A Wood, by Denise Fleming

*What a fabulous idea this is from Debbie, especially for those who actually live near sea turtle nesting sites:
Stormie, when we were studying about ocean life, I set up a sea turtle nest in the sand table: I buried white styrofoam balls (turtle eggs) in the sand and bordered the "nest" with sticks that had yellow hazzard ribbon stretched around them.  The children could play in the sand but try to avoid the "caution" area. However, when/if they forgot, they found an "egg" and I would talk about how we shouldn't disturb the sea turtles and their nexts.  Each day I reconstructed the nest, and then on the last day of the unit, I removed the "eggs" and replaced them with small plastic sea turtles crawling away from the nest.  The children were so excited to see that the sea turtles had hatched.  Everyone wanted to take home a sea turtle.

Note from Stormie: Environmental Education activities will be included in my "Stormie's Activity Cards."  If you would like to begin collecting all my classroom ideas (each on a 4 x 6" index card), click here to check them out.

This ends "FEBRUARY" themes and activities for now but many more are coming.  Please understand that maintaining my webpages has now become a part-time career for me, and the cost of site maintenance has steadily risen over time.  So, if you benefit from this website and would like to see it continue, please purchase "Stormie's Stuff for Teachers," and/or make occasional financial donations where possible to help defer the costs of keeping my site on the internet.
