COLOR
FOCUS: RED Secondary
Color: Green
From
Stormie:
Collage: Red Christmas Trees: Provide
all red decorative collage items in various textures for children to decorate
a small red paper tree.
Variation: Do the same thing with green.
Pre-Math: Fabric Print Sort: Cut several tree shapes from red fabric
or wallpaper (red polka-dots, red plaid, red stripes, etc). Have children
sort the trees according to the prints in the fabric/wallpaper.
Variation:
Do the same thing with green prints.
Social Game: Here's a little color activity/song I recently created that's neat for use at Christmas or any time of year and can be used with any color:
Make red
and/or green Jello in celebration of the two colors and the letter
Jj.
Make red and/or green frostings
for cookies for your classroom Christmas Party.
Sort red
and green (wrapped) candies.
Sort red
and green Christmas decorations.
Creative Ornaments (2-day project): For the Art Center, provide red construction paper stars in all sizes and have children glue green collage materials onto them. The next day, provide green construction paper stars in all sizes and have children glue red collage materials onto them. Once they dry, glue the child's red and green stars together with the collage sides facing outward. Hang the collaged "ornaments" from the ceiling or on your classroom Christmas tree.
Here's
a colors, fine motor, and "following directions" activity for this special
time of year from Debbie Reynolds: Wreaths:
Children tear pieces of green tissue paper and glue them to a wreath shape cut
from a small white paper plate. Instruct them to "cover all the white areas
of the plate." Allow them to do as many layers as they wish. They
then crumple up red tissue paper "berries" and glue them to the green
tissue paper wreath. Glue a hanger to the back (fold a green pipe cleaner
in half forming a loop and you -- the adult
-- hot-glue it to the back of the wreath). These make very cute
tree ornaments.
